Ranveer Singh hit by deepfake video scandal

Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh has lodged a complaint against a deepfake (fake) video circulating on social media, depicting him endorsing a political party.

During India's elections, a video featuring Ranveer Singh went viral, generated using artificial intelligence (AI).

The manipulated video portrayed the actor criticizing the escalating unemployment under Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership while endorsing another political faction.

The original footage utilized for the deepfake originated from Ranveer Singh's visit to Varanasi, during which he not only shared his experiences from the city but also commended Modi's government.

Following the video's dissemination, Ranveer Singh took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to caution users about the dangers of deepfakes.

Subsequently, a few days later, Ranveer Singh lodged a complaint with the Mumbai Police's cybercrime cell against the deepfake video.

Media reports suggest that in his FIR, Ranveer Singh urged the police to investigate the social media account responsible for initially uploading the deepfake video.
