In New York last June, Weinstein lost his first appeal against his verdict and sentence in the state´s intermediate appellate court.

in Los Angeles On Monday, a hearing to determine Harvey Weinstein’s sentence for raping a woman in a Beverly Hills hotel room ten years ago was postponed.

The 70-year-old Oscar-winning movie producer is nearly halfway through a 23-year term for the sex crimes he was found guilty of in New York in 2020.

Even though he is appealing both cases, the possibility of a second 18-year sentence in California increases the likelihood that the “Pulp Fiction” producer will serve the remainder of his life behind bars.

On December 19, he was found guilty of forced rape in the Los Angeles case.

The defense’s demand for a fresh trial was set for hearing on February 23.

If the motion is turned down, the judge stated on Monday, sentence will take place that day.

Weinstein attempted to have his judgement and sentence overturned in New York’s intermediate appellate court, but he was unsuccessful.

He has, however, filed an additional appeal with the New York Court of Appeals.

Years of rumours about Weinstein’s behaviour had been circulating in Hollywood, but due to his dominance of the field, few were willing to oppose him.

All of that changed in 2017 when shocking allegations against him were made public, sparking the #MeToo movement and allowing women to speak out against sexual harassment at work for the first time.

Since then, dozens of women have said they were prey to Weinstein’s predatory actions.
