In the CWC23, Pakistan achieved a historic victory by successfully pursuing the highest total ever recorded in World Cup history to defeat Sri Lanka.

In Hyderabad, Pakistan scripted a remarkable World Cup victory on Tuesday, as they successfully chased down the highest total in the tournament's history to defeat Sri Lanka by six wickets in the 8th match of the ICC World Cup 2023.

The duo of Kusal Mendis and Sadeera Samarawickrama ignited the Sri Lankan innings with their sensational centuries, enabling them to set a formidable target of 345 runs for Pakistan.

In their pursuit of this challenging total, Pakistan displayed exceptional resolve, securing the victory in 48.2 overs while losing only four wickets. The star performers of the match were Mohammad Rizwan and Abdullah Shafique, both notching up centuries to lead Pakistan to a triumphant conclusion.

Despite a less-than-stellar start by the opening pair, Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Perera, Kusal Mendis delivered an explosive knock of 122 runs from 77 balls. His commanding performance was complemented by Samarawickrama's splendid innings of 108 runs from 89 deliveries, propelling Sri Lanka to a substantial total.

After the departure of these two key batsmen, Sri Lanka faced the loss of five quick wickets, but they managed to set a challenging target for Pakistan.

In the bowling department, Hasan Ali excelled for Pakistan, claiming four wickets, while Haris Rauf contributed with two crucial dismissals.

Sri Lanka had won the toss earlier and opted to bat first. Historically, Pakistan has maintained an impeccable record against Sri Lanka in ICC World Cups, boasting a 7-0 lead. However, it's worth noting that Sri Lanka secured a pivotal victory against Pakistan in the Asia Cup just three weeks prior to this encounter.
