The political satirical theater play ’14 and a half’ written by the well-known writer Anwar Maqsood has been announced to be presented at the Karachi Arts Council of Pakistan on August after Eid-ul-Fitr.

According to a report published in Dawn newspaper, Anwar Maqsood announced the presentation of the play in a press conference at the Arts Council along with director Dawar Mahmood, producer Salman Hussain and Arts Council President Syed Ahmed Shah.

During the press conference, Anwar Maqsood said that when he wrote the play ‘Pune 14 August’ in 2011, he was asked why he did not write the complete 14 August?

He said that after three years he wrote ‘Sawa 14th August’ and again he did not write 14th August, because he thought 14th August had not yet come.

According to Anwar Maqsood, people thought that he would write a play called ’14th August’ after ‘Sawa 14th August’, but it is not so and he has written ‘Sade 14th August’.

The writer said that people thought that maybe Anwar Maqsood wrote August 14 after the arrival of Imran Khan of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), but it is not so, now he has left August and entered September.

At the same time, he also told the story of ’14 and a half August’ that the story of the theater play revolves around a question asked by a person to the founder of Pakistan, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Mahatma Gandhi.

According to him, someone asked Quaid-e-Azam and Gandhi that why did they divide a huge country India and make three separate countries out of it, India, Pakistan and Bangladesh?

Anwar Maqsood said that after the person asks the question, Quaid-e-Azam and Gandhi go to the cities of Kashmir, Lahore, Delhi and London and the story of the play revolves around finding the answer to the question.

Speaking during the press conference, Ahmed Ali Shah said that ‘August 14 and a half’ will be presented in the Arts Council for two consecutive months after Eid-ul-Fitr.

He said that after Karachi, the said theater play will also be presented in the arts councils of other cities including Lahore and Islamabad.

On this occasion, director Dawar Mehmood expressed his happiness that he is getting an opportunity to direct Anwar Maqsood’s theater once again and hoped that people will like the play.

It is believed that ’14 and a half August’ will be presented at the Karachi Arts Council from mid-June to mid-August, however, no details have been given.
